Example portraits of a fictional person, made with kin.
Meet the people your face remembers.
kin is an iPhone time machine. Put a portrait in the lens, wind the gear, and kin imagines who carried your face before you, and who will carry it after. From the Ice Age to the year 10,000, each era is rendered in its own medium: firelight, encaustic wax, gold leaf, tintype, neon.
How it works
-
Put a portrait in the lens
A photo from your library or a new selfie. The original never leaves your iPhone’s private record unless you share it.
-
Wind the gear
Clockwise winds back in time, anticlockwise forward. It clicks every five years near today, then by centuries and millennia. Before is an ancestor, Later is you, After is a descendant.
-
Travel
The gear turns by itself while kin develops the portrait — about half a minute. If you leave the app, a notification tells you when it arrives.
